Benefit-cost analysis (BCA) can be used to screen and select projects funded by federal grants. The current narrow framework is insufficient to integrate the impacts of current policy emphasis. Researchers around the globe are experiencing similar challenges and opportunities. Environmental effects, active transportation health benefits, and social equity/income distribution are some of the considerations congruent with current federal policy emphasis. Further research and development is needed. TRB will cover the latest in BCA from the perspective of transportation agencies that require and rely on them and innovative practitioners who develop them.

In recognition of Native American Heritage month, this webinar will showcase innovative tools being used in Tribal communities for data collection in transportation planning and data sharing in construction management. Participants will hear from the Northern Tribal Technical Assistance Program (TTAP) Center on results from a recently completed innovation project with the Northern Cheyenne and Crow nations using digital video recorders to collect network data. They will demonstrate this data collection technology as well as how the data can be used to assess roadway safety vulnerabilities with International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) Star Rating protocols, which provide an objective measure of safety levels 'built in' to the road for vehicle occupants, motorcyclists, bicyclists, and pedestrians.

This webinar will provide a holistic overview of the mobility challenges of people with sensory disabilities (e.g., vision, hearing, spatial awareness, etc.) in emergency situations, practical planning practices to enhance emergency preparedness, accessible and inclusive communications, and strategies to secure organizational support.
