This summer, MnLTAP coordinated participation by transportation agencies and industry representatives in a youth summer camp, Discover STEM. The camp was offered by the University of Minnesota's College of Science and Engineering.
Staff from the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) and the Minnesota Chapter of the American Public Works Association gave campers a hands-on introduction to civil engineering, project estimating, and public works. Highlights included a bridge-building activity and an equipment showcase featuring vehicles MnDOT uses for transportation maintenance around the state.
Agency participants were Lauren Letsche (City of Columbia Heights), Mackenze Grunig (Stantec), and Marcia Lochner and Michael Solie (MnDOT).
MnLTAP would like to partner with more local agencies on youth outreach efforts. If you are interested or have leads, please contact Katherine Stanley at sell0146@umn.edu or 612-626-1023.
