New truck-weight education materials provide guidance for officials

MnLTAP’s Truck-Weight Education Program promotes voluntary compliance to reduce costly damage to public roads and highways from overweight vehicles. The program’s goal is to provide information about hauling the greatest legal weight without violating truck-weight laws. Program training has traditionally focused on haulers, drivers, and law enforcement.

Now, the program has developed new materials designed to educate elected officials and other authorities. In partnership with Stonebrooke Engineering, MnLTAP has produced a new web resource with a short video, “Truck-Weight Education: The Balance of Roads and Loads,” and a printable fact sheet.

The video features interviews with engineers, elected officials, trainers, and law enforcement representatives who provide firsthand perspectives on issues related to truck weight, including cost, safety, and spring load restrictions. Even though the message addresses officials, it’s presented in a common-sense way for anyone to follow. Check it out and help us share this important message.
