Highlights from 2024 Training and Demo Day

More than 150 local agency staff participated in the 2024 Minnesota Roadway Maintenance Training and Demo Day, held at Central Lakes College in Brainerd, Minnesota, on May 23. The event featured engaging education sessions and demonstrations, as well as opportunities for participants to network with other attendees and cruise the equipment showcase.

Among the day’s highlights:

  • Brian Barott, retired MnDOT CMV/equipment training specialist, returned to discuss proper load securement for different types of equipment.
  • Jake Carr of Carr Tree Services emphasized chainsaw safety and felled a tree to show proper techniques in action.
  • Curt Anderson, a MnLTAP instructor, discussed critical aspects of work-zone safety and temporary traffic control. Participants put their knowledge to the test by setting up the most appropriate work zone under different roadway scenarios.
  • The Crow Wing County Highway Department and MnDOT displayed several pieces of equipment, including Crow Wing County’s Build a Better Mousetrap contest submissions.
  • A 2023 Roads Scholar ceremony honored 19 graduates of the program.
