Got a research idea or a problem to solve? The LRRB is here for you!

The Local Road Research Board (LRRB) serves Minnesota’s local transportation agencies through research and the implementation of new technologies that benefit local roads. Your expertise is always welcome! Learn how you can provide research ideas, serve on a TAP, and access guidebooks and other technical knowledge.

The Local Road Research Board is here to meet local needs. Ideas for research come directly from county and city practitioners who are looking for solutions to problems and want to build their knowledge.

“What makes the LRRB unique is that it is driven by local agencies,” says Jim Foldesi, St. Louis County public works director and LRRB chair. “City and county engineers serve on the board, and we look to professionals from around Minnesota to develop research and implementation projects based on their needs. It’s important that we hear from local practitioners about their challenges, experiences, and research ideas.”

Here’s how you can get involved with the LRRB:

Attend prescreening meetings in October

LRRB representatives hold listening sessions at 12 State Aid prescreening meetings throughout Minnesota where city and county engineers can submit their research needs.

Join a Technical Advisory Panel

Make a difference without making a major time commitment! Participating on a TAP ensures that research results address your needs and are applied in the most productive way in the field. As a TAP member, you will attend a limited number of meetings, review research materials, and provide a local government perspective to make the research practical. To participate, email research.dot@state.mn.us.

Currently, the LRRB Research Implementation Committee is seeking TAP members for projects that are about to begin on topics including bridges and structures, maintenance operations, policy and planning, and traffic and safety. Please visit the Fall 2023 TAP Sign-Up to learn about the projects and indicate your interest for serving on a TAP by using the survey link.

Visit the LRRB at the Fall Maintenance Expo
